Its time!

I have failed.
I know why.
But there’s too much distractions in this world.
I mustn’t become a person who do not practice what he say.
I must avoid the mistakes of others.
Its easy to be mediocre but difficult to be the best.
On the other hand, if you cannot be the best, why do you exist?
I am not giving up. Its really time to focus and KICK SOME ASS.

Some accumulated thoughts
Who am I really?
Who are you really as a person? Have you ever though about this question?
What are your strengths? What are your weakness?
What do you really want in your life?
What is the true meaning of life? Do you ever doubt your existence?
The world that we are living in is getting more and more complicated. Just look at economy. The stock markets. The global crisis. The internet. China. India. Rising Food Prices. Record high inflation.
Some people even say we are at the worst recession yet since the Great Depression in the 1930s.
There’s a lot of problems. Plenty of opportunities if you look at it from the other perspective.
I used to think the world only consist of me.
The fact is it doesn’t. I guess people always say if you are 25 your life just started.
I dont think so. I think I’m old. Too late. I need to start my race. I need to run fast, as fast I can possible can.
I can’t be lazy. There is no room for laziness in this economy. in this world. There is no room for mediocrity. You will be out of job. You will be left behind. Not only in Singapore. Around the world.
Even the world of marketing is changing, why? social media? Hard sell is not only a thing of the past, any serious blunder you make as a company, social media is going to make you pay for it. first digg, stumbleupon, now the latest twitter. How are big companies going to adapt?
Is Microsoft going to survive past the next decade? No doubt it will. Who is going to take on Starbucks, Coffeebean or even Subway?

Burned Out!
I am feeling unmotivated right now. I dont even feel like writing my FYP report.
This is supposed to be my SUCCESS JOURNAL. more like my FAILURE JOURNAL?
I feel so burned out. There’s ton and tons of things to do and I feel so sleepy but I CANT LIE ON MY BED AND REST!!!
SUCCESS
Success? What’s your definition of success? Money? Car? Career of your choice? What do you really want in your life?
Have you really thought about it? You NEED TO HAVE A LONG TERM PERSPECTIVE PERIOD.
You do not live from day to day. You think about what you want in your life5-10 years from now. Do not tell me you dont know. ONLY FAILURES do not know what they want in their life. You must take charge of your own SUCCESS. YOUR OWN LIFE!!! No one else will.
Ask Yourself
Try asking yourself this question. IF lets say IF, I were to give you any amount of money that you want. Will you get a job? Will you quit your job?
Most people would. That’s normal. That’s because you are not doing what you like. That is not your PASSION. NOT THE CAREER THAT YOU WANT!
Just look at Bill Gates and Warren Buffet. They have billions in their account. But they are still working. Why? the reason is very simple. Because they have found their dream. THAT IS THEIR GOAL OF LIFE. they have found THEIR WHY!
Have you found your own WHY?

NTU MAE Dinner 2008 - Offline Marketing at Work
I went for the NTU MAE dinner 2008 just now with my friends. Well, frankly speaking, I went there partly because of the free dinner. I mean you pay $5 for going but the $5 is refundable. How cool is that?
Of course, there is also a lucky draw at the end of the event. The prizes? 10 MAE jackets, a number of thumb drives as well as the grand price of a iPod Shuffle.
What Happened
Alright, we went there. The start of the event was this lady, i dont even remember her name actually. some alumin thing. she’s in charge of some fund raising i think. went up to stage and gave her sales pitch.
“DONATE TO NTU BEFORE YOU GRADUATE”.
“THE GIFT OF 2008″
“YOU MUST BEAT THE PREVIOUS BATCH OF STUDENTS”
By the way, she gave the most enthusiastic speech during the whole event. Her voice was the most energetic.
I think only a couple of us donate. $10 will earn you a badge. $50 your name on some plasma tv which nobody notices? and $75 for something even better. something like a dedication in addition to your name on the screen!
Lesson Learnt - No Free Lunch in This World
So, will NTU MAE Dinner 2009 be the same as this? Well, I mean, underneath all of it. The free dinner to entice you to go for the dinner and maybe a conversion rate of 5%?
Actually not many of my friend donated to the so called gift for our school 2008. I guess we are just not used to getting sales pitch for their funds and scholarships.
Did I donate
I guess they didnt think I was something who would donate. But the point is they didnt ask me.
ONE ADVICE FOR SALES PEOPLE - ASK AND YOU SHALL BE GIVEN. NEVER MIND IF YOU ARE REJECTED.
If you didnt ask, how would you know?
AT THE END OF THE DAY
I guess we students always feel a sense of belonging in school. Especially in engineering, the long hours of tutorials and boring experiments, not forgetting the SUPER DUPER long queue at canteen A(people queue at food that is not even tasting at all, simply becos we have no choice) . You really really do not need a sales pitch to get donations.
Just ask with your HEART(sincerity) and we will donate. After all, we will never forget the times we spend in LTs sleeping and the fun we have at labs. But marketing tactics should never be used in tandem in donations or charity.
